Washington D.C.- Representative Thomas Massie has introduced legislation (H.R. 4726) to end the COVID-19 vaccine requirement for people who want to become citizens of the United States. Massie's legislation seeks to prohibit the use of federal funds to "administer, implement, or enforce" the vaccine mandate that currently remains in effect despite the ending of the COVID-19 national emergency.

"It’s un-American to force COVID vaccines on people who want to become Americans," said Rep. Thomas Massie. "Currently, our government coerces those who’ve come to our country legally into taking mRNA vaccines as a condition of fulfilling their dreams of becoming U.S. citizens. H.R. 4726 will finally put an end to this unscientific policy and repeal several of the last remaining COVID mandates."

Specifically, Massie's legislation would ensure that neither the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) nor the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) can require a legal visitor to the United States to be vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of receiving a visa. In addition, the legislation would prevent these agencies from requiring nonimmigrant aliens to be vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of seeking permanent residency status. Finally, the bill ensures that these agencies cannot impose a COVID-19 vaccine requirement on legally admitted permanent residents who are seeking to become naturalized citizens.

The original cosponsors of Rep. Massie's legislation include Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Rep. Josh Brecheen (R-OK), Rep. Eric Burlison (R-MO), Rep. Michael Cloud (R-TX), Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH), Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Rep. Bob Good (R-VA), Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), Rep. Diana Harshbarger (R-TN), Rep.
